Going to Provincial Debate Championship!

This weekend was important for me as a debater.
I competed in Lower Mainland Regionals Debate Championship and placed sixth in the novice category. Fortunately, the top six qualify to go to the British Columbia Provincial Championship in February. I am also the best novice speaker in all  Lower Mainland public schools! That wouldn't be possible though if I didn't have the best coach - my sister!
After only two months of practicing, two of the NRP debaters were in the top ten best in Lower Mainland. That means that we are the best novice public school team!
Way to go Norm Rose debaters!
Our Regional Debate team with our coach in the middle

This is when I was recognized among top six novice speakers

My convincing speech

Don't we look so professional?! Like real lawyers!

Cool Holiday Cards

This year my sister and I made lots of different cards for the holidays. They look really hard, but they're very quick, easy and fun. All the steps for all the cards are here!

1st Card:

First step: Take a regular piece of construction paper and draw your measurements as shown (don't forget to fold the paper in half first!):

Second step: When you've finished drawing all the measurements keep the paper folded and cut along the first vertical line up to the first horizontal line.
Third step: when you've finished cutting unfold the paper and pop out the part that you cut out and fold back:

Keep doing step 2 (as shown above) until you get to the top. Then you'll end up with a pyramid!:

Now you can add any decorations you want!

2nd Card

First step: Fold a regular piece of construction paper in half like a book. On the cover draw anything you want, if your doing it for the holidays you might want to draw something winter themed. For example:

Second step: make a chain of people. You can find the steps for this at the end of this post.

Third step: Cut out an icon for "Happy New Year" and "Merry Christmas." Make sure that your icon has enough space for you to write on it, and make sure that your icon is a different color than the background color of the card. Attach both of these on different sides of the card with a "springie." You can find the directions for a "springie" on my post "I, Robot."

4th step: Now you can write message, and you've got your card!

3rd Card:

1st step: Take a large piece of designed paper as shown above and write message on the bottom right corner.

2nd step: Make a chain of people shown on the end of the post, and stick it on the top right corner.

3rd step: Cut out Merry Christmas or Happy New Year on different color papers and stick them together. To attach the letters to the paper use a string and attach one end the paper and the  other end to the letters (as shown below). Now you've gotten yourself a card!

How to make a chain of people:

First step: Take a regular piece of construction paper, fold it in half and draw two silhouettes of people holding hands (make sure that the arm of the first person is a attached to the end of the paper as shown below):

Second step: Cut the whole shape of both of them stuck together:

Third step: Unfold your product and you have yourself a chain of people!

DEBATE!

So I became a member of Debate Club in my school this year, with my sister as a coach. She's the best!
In my school everyone wanted to learn debate from my sister so our club has fifty debaters! It's the greatest thing I ever did, and so fun.
So last week I went to my first official city competition because I was selected among all fifty in my club as one of the top six.
I was a little stressed at the beginning but when the first debate started, and I had to talk, my fear disappeared and suddenly , it was like a click..I wasn't afraid. I was so confident and words started to come out of me...It was amazing! In cross examination, I knew how to respond and at the end I was so proud of myself!
As a novice, when results came out, I found out that I was the best scored at the both debates among all debaters, and my team won both times! I also have a very good partner!

You can see me debating the topic "THBT Internet as a human right"

More about debating and my tournaments check my Debate Page

See me starting debate

Elaborating...

I think I made good points!
The judges thought that I did very good!

This is me preparing for my first debate. Me and my partner did very well, and I hope to keep on doing more debates!

SHARE IF YOU CARE

A couple days ago I went onto my “google+”, it is a type of social media similar to “Facebook”. There were plenty of new posts that I love looking at, but then I saw a post from one page that I follow called “Amusing World” the post was a picture of a starving skinny African boy crouching down. Beside the picture there was a message that said: “The world's hunger is getting ridiculous. There is more fruit in a rich man’s shampoo than on a poor man’s plate”. That was a nice message, although a bit “Captain Obvious”; we already know that there is poverty, but people are too lazy and selfish that they don’t want to change it, but I won’t go on about that. The thing that I am writing about is that on that post, on the very bottom where nobody can see it, there was a little thing that said “Share if you care.” It says that on almost every post so I didn’t mind it. However, when I checked my email yesterday there was an email from my blog and it said “reminder! It's a new week and its time to get started on a new post!” And then it showed a picture of an african boy as inspiration so I thought about writing about this.

We live in a world where the protagonists say that there is no wrong, only right. There is no bad, only good. There is no arrogant, only kind, but actually they are only wrong, bad and arrogant, and most of the world is made out of these people. If I post a persuasive enough comment on that post, i will change whoever reads that comments' mind. Saying “share if you care” is equivalent to telling someone that the only way that they can show that they truly care about poverty is by sharing that one and only post,it is equivalent to telling someone that if they don’t share that post they don’t care. "It isn’t fair" you may say, but then you haven’t lived your life because life is just full of twist and turns of inequality, racism, lying, selfishness, etc. Those things are so common that I can show an example of all of them.

Inequality: when a rich man with 1000 dollars in his pocket sees a homeless african boy dying on the streets, he just walks by. Lying: saying “share if you care” just to make us think what a wonderful person they are, when actually they could’ve just said the truth by saying “share so that we can come up to people and boast about how we have more shares than them.” Selfishness: the same example as I gave for inequality. When you read this think about all the inequality, lying and selfishness you have done in your life. If you have done a lot try and change it right now because if you don’t, you are going to be one of the many antagonists that call themselves "protagonists" in this world.
We live in a world were the antagonists say there is no wrong, only right. No bad, only good. No arrogant, only kind, but they actually are only wrong, bad and arrogant, and most of this world is made out of these people. I posted a persuasive enough comment to change the minds of people who read it.

Here is the comment I posted:
The picture is sad, and they’re right the people are monsters but at the bottom of the picture it says “share if you care.” How does sharing help these children in africa and other places survive of poverty. If they already want to say something they could say “Go around the world and give food to children who are dying of poverty if you care.” Or, they shouldn’t put anything because its common sense, everyone knows what to do to show that they care. All "Amusing World" wants, is people to share their post, because they want to come up to people and boast about how they got 1251 shares and the other person only got 11 shares. I would be on the other person's side though. So if you actually feel like poverty is bad then don’t tell people to share if they care because people will actually think thats the only way you can care about something, and people, it's not even one way you can care about something.

Welcome to Cry and Laugh Out Loud School!!!

So my sister and me invented this therapy... We were inspired by a new method we were reading about: people with depression or mood problems should laugh a lot. So we thought that crying also helps and decided to get some training as CLOL (Cry and Laugh Out Loud) instructors..

See me trying, I think everyone will be cured when they see me cry and laugh this way!!!

Acrostic Poem

An acrostic poem is one of my favorite kinds of poetry. It represents someone or something by you writing what kind of person you think they are. This is one that I did it is about myself.

First, you write the persons name vertically in big letters.

Finally, you write beside every letter a word that describes that person starting with the same letter.
It's very quick, easy and fun, and you can make one for just about anything.

Finger Dress

Today me and my sister came up with another idea. Finger Dresses. Finger dresses are similar to finger puppets, only they're dressed up in real clothes that you can make yourself! For our finger dress we used cherry printed fabric. The dresses are really easy to make. To make one, all you do is take a piece of fabric in your choice of colour/print, fold it in half, sketch the dress on the fabric, cut your sketch and sew it together. If you want you can also draw a face on your finger to make it look like more of a puppet.

To make a finger puppet with arms, you have to sew from the top of the left side down to about the middle, then from the bottom of the left side, sew a little further up just so that a pencil (or whatever you're using as arms) can fit through. Try to make this symmetrical. Do the same thing on the right side. Now take your needle and thread and from the left sew a little to the right. Do the same thing from right to left and make sure that you have enough space for your finger to go through. Now you have a finger puppet. Poke a pencil through the side holes and you have a finger puppet with arms. You could also make your own arms using something other than a pencil. Be creative!

If you want a finger puppet without arms follow the same instructions for the one with arms; only don't leave any side holes/sew the left and right sides completely up. Trim off some loose thread to make it look more finished. Now you have a finger dress without arms.

This is what a finished finger dress (without arms) looks like. Now you can put on a puppet show and have your fingers look great!!!

Cat cartoon: "Kiss"

Me and my sister made a movie, actualy cartoon with clay cats.
I made the cats and put them in motions while my sister took the shots..
Then she went on the computer and made a movie by adding those fast shots together. She also added Prince song Kiss because of the name of the movie: "Kiss".

Pompom Cute Animals

I found this great craft in a Korean store.
You make pompom from wool and then attach pieces of fabric to create some animal like characters. It is now one of my favorite things to do!

These are some that I made, my favourites:

Step 1: Pick an animal that you would like to make.
Step 2: Pick a yarn color that you think would suit that animal, but you don't have to, all you have to do is be creative!
Step 3:Wrap your yarn around a circular pom pom wrapper. (you can buy it in any craft store).
Step 4: Cut the yarn. Don't forget to tie the knot! Otherwise, your masterpiece falls apart!
Step 5: Take the circular pom pom wrapper off. Now you have your pom pom!
Step 6: The rest is up to you. Be creative and glue details like eyes, noses and mouths, on to your pom pom.

Bubble Tea!

No more school, teachers are on strike!
Me and my sister wanted to have some fun at home.
My mom showed me how to make bubble tea. I love bubble tea and most of all I love pearls in the tea

So we had to cook the  pearls first, we got them from a Japanese store.
Bubbles look like marbles when they get boiled.

Then, we made the tea and mixed it with mango and milk to get milk tea.

This is how my mango bubble tea looks like at the end.

It was so yummy!

Cool

People that think they’re “cool”, they’re everywhere.
Probably most of the people you know are trying to be "coo"l all the time.
Maybe even you are trying to be "cool". A sign to see if someone, who you live with, is trying to be “cool” is: look at their personality at home; there they are most genuine, then take a look at their personality when they are out with their friends. If it's different, then they are trying to be cool, if not they are a genuine person.
See, only so many people in this world are actually genuine the rest are just fakes. Every once in a while a genuine person says that it's just a stupid thing to do to try and be cool.

Take a look at some of these quotes people said:

“So there’s nothing more provocative than taking a genre that everybody who’s cool hates – and then making it cool.”

-Lady Gaga

All of my favorite people – people I really trust – none of them were cool in their younger years

-Taylor Swift

In my opinion all of these peoples’ quotes are not genuine. They may sound genuine to you but when you take a deeper look into it you can see that, as I said, they heard a genuine person say one of these things and they thought that he/she were “cool” or “laid back”, so because they wanted to look cool they said it. It sounds and is complicated but in my head its the truth.
